Julia M. Honke

Passed away at St Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the age of 85. Julia was born in Dalton, Georgia on January 7, 1930. Her family resided in Georgia until 1944 when they moved to the Ypsilanti area so that her father could join the work force at the Ford Bomber Plant building the B 24. She graduated from the Ypsilanti school system and in 1949 she married Ernest Honke and together they shared a marriage lasting 48 years, Ernest passing away in 1997. Julia enjoyed bingo, bowling and working out crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed baking muffins and brownies. She was known to her grandchildren as the " brownie grandma. " Julia is survived by her children Margarette ( Robert ) Garrett, Ernest ( Penny ) Honke, Jr. and Timothy Honke. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Quentin, Matthew, Charity, Faith, Jason, Robin, Brandon, Shannon, Lauren and Ryan; thirteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson and siblings Margaret Nixon, Thelma ( Leroy ) Martinson, Geneva ( Gerald ) DuBois, Delores Williams and Mel Hall. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 pm until 9 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Visitation will continue on Monday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Plymouth. The Reverend Paul Schaefer will officiate. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia. Contributions are suggested to the church.
