Joseph Richard Burman passed away at Angela Hospice in Livonia, on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the age of 80. He was born in Detroit, the son of Joseph and Stella (Cadarian) Burman, on December 6, 1931. Joe served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. For over 32 years he was an insurance salesmen with AAA in both the Allen Park and Lincoln Park offices. On May 13, 1958, he married Jeanette M. (nee Bowen), and together they shared almost 54 years of married life. The family resided both in the Redford area and then for the past many years in Plymouth. Joe was a member of the Odd Fellows in Plymouth, was a choir member at his church, St. John's Episcopal, and was quite active in the American Legion. Among the positions he held with the Legion were District Vice Commander, the 17th District Commander and the State Historian for the Legion. He was also a member of the 40 8, an organization within the Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his children, Lynn Dowell and Joseph D. Burman; his grandchildren, Joseph C. (Melana) Burman, Madeline Burman and David Burman; and his siblings, Shirley Burman, Loretta Allen, Nancy McGue and David Burman.
Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, from 7pm - 9pm.
Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10am until time of the funeral service, 11am at St. John's Episcopal Church, 574 South Sheldon Road, Plymouth. Interment will follow on Thursday, 12 noon, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. John's Musical Ministry c/o of the church, The Michigan Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.
