Joseph Richard Sgroi passed away on January 11th at the age of 42. He was born on November 24th,1979. Joe had a cherished wife Jenny (Lachapelle) and two loving daughters, Charlotte (7) and Georgia (3). He is also survived by his beloved parents Roy and Kathy, and a younger brother Michael (Melissa) and his Grandpa . He treasured his extended family whom he loved dearly, including his in-laws, Joe and Colleen Lachapelle, and brothers-in-law Jeff (Lisa) and Nick (Lisa), together with all of his nieces and nephews.
Joe was born and raised in Michigan. He attended St. Michaels in Livonia and Detroit Catholic Central High School. Joe graduated from the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School. He lettered at Michigan as a football player.
After law school, Joe joined Honigman LLP in Detroit. Joe was a firm partner where he was the leader of the firm’s Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group as well as a member of the firm's Board of Directors. He served as one of the firm’s Chief Value Partners. His awards as an attorney are too long to list but include being named multiple times in Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business.
Outside of his career, Joe was a family man who put Jenny, Charlotte, and Georgia above all else. They enjoyed boating and water sports together. They cooked together, traveled together, and enjoyed spending time together. He shared his fondness for music, sports, and Harry Potter passionately with his girls. Friends and family were a big part of Joe’s life.
Joe was taken from us far too early, but his legacy will never be forgotten. We will all cherish our time with Joe and our many memories of him. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral service Tuesday, January 18th 11:00am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church 133 Orchard Drive, Northville. Visitation will begin 10:00am until time of funeral mass.
Visitation Sunday, January 16th from 3:00pm-8:00pm and Monday, January 17th from 3:00pm-8:00pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home 280 South Main St, Plymouth. Rosary service will be held on Monday at 6:00pm.
