Joseph John Wood

Joseph John Wood passed away at his home with his family beside him on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the age of 75. Joseph was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the son of Joseph and Jane T. ( nee Taylor ) Wood on February 5, 1939. He graduated from St. Thomas More High School in Philadelphia then joined the United States Marine Corps. In 1959 Joe married Elizabeth A. ( nee Plum ) and they resided in the Philadelphia area where he was employed as U.A.W. President for Local 1069 which covered Boeing Aircraft employees there. In 1985 they moved to Michigan where he was the International Representative for the U.A.W. in Detroit. He retired in 2000. Joe, in his younger years coached Little League Baseball and enjoyed bowling. He also enjoyed leading the rosary before daily mass at his church, St. Kenneth Catholic Church of Plymouth. Joe is survived by his wife Elizabeth and children Joseph ( Diann ) Wood, Kenneth Wood, Elizabeth Custodio, Jane ( Derek ) Lynch and Matthew Wood. Also surviving are his ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son Timothy and a grandchild. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 5 pm until 9 pm. A Rosary will be held at 8:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10 am until time of the funeral mass at 10:30 am at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 Haggerty Road ( South of Five Mile ) Plymouth, celebrated by Father Thomas Belczak. Interment will follow at great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at 2 pm.
