Joseph J. Barath

Joseph J. Barath passed away June 23, 2014 at the age of 90. He was born November 8, 1923 in Pennsylvania to John and Mary Barath. Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Ann. He is the dear father of Michael ( Renee ) Barath, Gregory Barath, David ( Denise ) Barath, Keith ( Wendy ) Barath and Becky ( John ) Denyer, and dear grandfather of Justin ( Jenny ) Barath, Brett Barath, Rachel Barath, Brad Barath and Mark Barath. Joseph retired in 1992 from the Detroit Police Department as Detective Sergeant after 44 years of service. He served his country in the Navy as a Shipfitter during WWII in the Pacific theater. He was a member of V.F.W. Dearborn Heights and a member of the Detroit Police Choir Boys. Joseph was active in both of these organization as he very much liked socializing with the other members. He lived in Plymouth since 1994 and belonged to St. Kenneth Catholic Church. Joseph's greatest love was his family. He especially loved watching his grandkids playing sports. He will be deeply missed. Visitation will be Wednesday (June 25, 2014) 2 pm - 9 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. A Scripture Service will take place Wednesday 8 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 Haggerty Road ( south of Five Mile ) Plymouth. Joseph will then be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at Parkview Memorial Cemetery, Livonia. Memorials may be made in the form of Mass Offerings.
