Joseph C. Madonia

Passed away at Hope Convalescent Home in Westland on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the age of 88. Joe was born in Detroit the son of Giacomo and Ida ( nee Bonafede ) Madonia on April 2, 1926. He attended Detroit Public schools and after graduation worked for the school system in delivery logistics retiring in 1986 after 38 years of service. Joe enjoyed landscaping projects and keeping his cars the " cleanest and most waxed cars in the neighborhood ". Nothing like a good " Blue Coral " wax job on his cars. Other hobbies Joe had were collecting ceramic clown figurines and die cast cars. He was active in his labor union, Teamsters # 299, where he knew Jimmy Hoffa. In 1949 he married Josephine Ponzio and together they have shared a 65 year marriage. Beside Josephine he is survived by his sons Jack ( Theresa ) Madonia and Joseph ( Bonnie ) Madonia and granddaughter Kimberly ( her fiancé Adam Peruski-Smith ) Madonia. A Memorial gathering will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 2 pm until time of the Memorial Service at 6 pm with visitation continuing until 8 pm. The Reverend Father Thomas Belczak of St. Kenneth Catholic Church of Plymouth will officiate.
