Passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the age of 68. Jon was born in Pontiac, the son of George E. and Ester ( nee Heitman ) Gary on February 8, 1947. He graduated from Clarkston High School and then continued his education at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University. He obtained his Bachelors in Hotel Management degree from Michigan State and his Masters of Vocational Education at Wayne State. He taught for 34 years, first at North East Oakland County Educational Center and then at the William D. Ford Vocational School in Westland, retiring in 2006. Together with his wife Carey, whom he married in 1981, they ran the 932 Penniman Bed & Breakfast in Plymouth until its sale in 2012. Jon had numerous interests including a love of cooking, woodworking and home renovation. Reading, playing golf and supporting the University of Michigan football team also brought great enjoyment to him. He is survived by his wife and his daughters Krista ( Randy ) Mince and Kaarina ( Tim ) Bodnar. Four grandchildren, Nolan, Madison, William and Emilia and siblings George ( Cathy ) Gary and Elizabeth ( John ) Rogala also survive. He was preceded in death by his sister Mae Anne Schryver. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 9:30 am until time of the funeral service at 11 am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 30650 West Six Mile Road, Livonia. The Reverend Dana Runestad will officiate. Contributions are suggested to the church, the Salvation Army Bed and Bread Club or the Culinary Arts Department of Salem High School.
