John Moodie

John Moodie, a cherished son, devoted father, and proud grandfather, passed away on February 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support. Born on September 20, 1950, John lived over seven decades that were marked by rich experiences and the lasting impressions he made on those fortunate enough to know him.

John honorably served in the United States Army, a commitment to his country that he wore with pride. His veteran hat was a familiar sight, symbolizing his dedication, and he embraced the camaraderie of fellow veterans at fairs and gatherings. The values instilled in him during his service shaped the man he became, resonating through his interactions with others.

As an individual, John was generous and humble. He may have been shy at first meeting, but his true warmth and sweetness unfolded as one got to know him. Those lucky enough to be in his circle were rewarded with his fierce loyalty and support.

John had many hobbies that enriched his life. He possessed a deep affection for motorcycles, particularly his beloved Harley-Davidson, which epitomized his adventurous spirit. He found solace and joy in the open road, reflecting a life lived with passion and enthusiasm. He also cherished game nights with his friends, playing euchre, Yahtzee, and other card games. Bowling nights were always a great pleasure to him where his lovable energy shined on everyone.

John was a constant presence at the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, embodying the role of a dedicated supporter. His children—Jennifer (Andrew) Danysh, Kevin (Deanna) Moodie, and Sean (Tammy) Harlow—along with his grandchildren, Aidan, Declan, Courtney, and Cameron, were the centerpieces of his world. It did not matter if it was an out-of-state hockey tournament, sweltering hot softball game, rainy soccer match, or he had just completed a round of chemotherapy. John was always the first to show up and cheer. His unwavering support not only showcased his love, but also highlighted the importance of family in his life.

Despite the early loss of his parents, John and Evelyn Moodie, John was bolstered by the enduring support of Betty and Ted Kulisz, whose love and guidance were pivotal in shaping his character. He demonstrated the same spirit of generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He was always eager to assist and fix things for those in need, thus fostering connections that were beyond mere friendship.

His siblings, Nancy Banfield, Jan Bartram, and Tom Moodie, and his former wife, Donna Moodie, remain a testament to a familial bond that endures the trials of life. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Jim Moodie and Dorothy Pearsall. John’s journey was truly shared and enriched by these relationships, forging memories that will be cherished forever.

A memorial gathering celebrating John's life will be held on February 20, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home located at 280 S. Main St, Plymouth, MI 48170.
