John F. Mitchell passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 after several months of cancer treatment at the age of 65. Dr. Mitchell received his pharmacist degree from the Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, New York in 1971. He followed this degree with his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Michigan. A leader in his field of medication errors, he is credited with saving multiple lives and was named Michigan Pharmacist of the Year in 2011 and was among only a handful of pharmacists awarded the prestigious national Cheers award for safe medication practices in 2007. John leaves behind his beloved wife Cathy and his cherished son Brian ( Dayna ) Mitchell and his step children ( Michelle ( Matt ) and Eric. He was a loving grandfather to twins Emmie & Lucie, Riley and Aidan. Also surviving are his twin brother Howard ( Jacki ) and Tom. He was preceded in death by his parents Alberta and Howard Sr. Mitchell. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 9:30 am until time of the Memorial Mass at 10 am at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, which will be officiated by his brother-in-law Father Michael Green.
