John Earl Jacobs

John Earl Jacobs passed away at Angela Hospice in Livonia on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the age of 83. John was born in Jackson, Michigan the son of John and Letha P. ( Lobb ) Jacobs on April 5, 1930. He graduated from Lake Orion High School and then received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1951 and his Masters in Business Administration in 1960 both from the University of Michigan. In 1951 he went to work for the Ford Motor Company in the Finance Department retiring in 1990. With Ford he worked throughout the Metro area and also for a time was in Melbourne, Australia. The family moved to the Plymouth area in 1962 where John was active in St. Johns Episcopal Church. He was on the Vestry and Treasurer of the church and also a member of the choir. He was a member of the Victors Club at the University of Michigan and earlier he had been active with the Boy Scouts. John loved to read, fish, play tennis and snow ski and was active in organizations at the family's summer home in Star Lake, Wisconsin, including the Lakes Association and as Commodore of the Star Lake Yacht Club. Together with his wife Carolyn they traveled the globe with the Nomads Travel Club. John is survived by his wife Carolyn and children Jeff ( Connie ) Jacobs, Nancy Jacobs and Linda Barlow. Also surviving are his grandchildren Ben & Chris ( Beth ) Jacobs, Heather, Scott and Amanda Barlow and sister Jean ( Bill ) Dietrich. A Memorial service will be held Friday, October 11, 2013, 11 am at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 574 South Sheldon Road, Plymouth where the family will greet friends at 10 am.
