John E. “Don” Scheff, age 84 of Plymouth, passed away on December 30, 2018.
Don was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 1, 1934, the son of the late Edward G. and Mary B. (nee Forgacs) Scheff. On May 27, 1966, Don would marry his beloved Phyllis (nee Hammerschmidt). In addition to Phyllis, he is survived by two loving sons – Edward (Allison Austin) of Seattle, Washington and Patrick (Sandy Marticio) Scheff of Colorado and his precious grandchildren, Ruby and Grady. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who brought great joy to his later years.
Don served two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Later, Don was employed by the Ford Motor Company as Manager of Training and Communications. His beloved wife, Phyllis became a constant source of support, inspiration and encouragement to him in continuing his education especially while attending classes in the evening in pursuit of his MBA. Don enjoyed coaching his son’s hockey teams and was the District Director for the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association. After raising their sons, and retiring from the Ford Motor Company, Don became a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer at the Livonia YMCA. Don had a profound sense of community, he devoted much of his time to helping children and their families in need of grief support while working for New Hope in Northville and Henry Ford Sandcastles Grief Support through Henry Ford Hospice.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Road, Livonia beginning at 10:30 A.M. John will be in-state at 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass.
Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
