John A. Micallef of Plymouth passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at St Mary Hospital in Livonia at the age of 87. John was born in Brooklyn, New York in June 13, 1927 the son of Emanuel and Mary Ann ( Grech ) Micallef. At an early age the family returned to Malta where John was raised. He spoke four languages, Maltese, English, Italian and French. John returned to this country and enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1948 until 1952 when he was Honorably Discharge for his faithful service. He met and married Dolores J. Zydbek and together they shared a marriage of 53 years. From March of 1973 and for the next thirty years the couple owned and operated the Westland Dunkin Donut shop. John and Dolores enjoyed ballroom dancing, the tango being John's favorite. He is survived by his wife and children Renee Micallef and son David Micallef. Also surviving are his brother Frank and many nieces and nephews. John was a devoted member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and with his love of woodworking produced the crosses used to memorialize those parish members who had passed on. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 pm until 9 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth where a Rosary will be conducted at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the funeral mass at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 North Territorial ( at Beck ) Plymouth. John will be entombed at Riverside Cemetery.
