Joe A. Taylor, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on October 10, 2024, at the age of 90 in Chesterfield Township, Michigan. He was born on October 4, 1934, in London, Kentucky.
Following high school, Joe joined the U.S. Army, reflecting his steadfast character and sense of duty to his country. Completing military service, Joe came to Detroit to work in the auto industry. His career spanned an impressive 40 years at Ford Motor Company.
Joe’s leisure time was spent fishing, allowing him to enjoy and appreciate the beauty and tranquility of nature and also trying to get the “BIG ONE”. He taught himself to play the guitar and enjoyed many times “pick-n” and “grin-n” with his neighbors in Kentucky.
Joe and his wife Jacqueline retired to Kentucky in 1994 to live out their retirement years. Following Jacqueline’s death in 2008, he remained in Kentucky. In 2016, Joe returned to Michigan to spend his remaining years with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his two children: Terrie (Steven) Poynter and Barry Taylor. Joe also leaves behind his cherished granddaughters Jennifer Poynter and Kimberly Power and great grandchildren Jackson Poynter, Payten Power, Elena Power, and Hudson Power. His legacy will continue through them.
Joe is further survived by his sisters, Ruth Tenorio and Lyn (Tom) Ward, who shared in his journey through life and will remember him fondly as will his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Joe is now reunited in peace with his daughter Stephanie Taylor, his grandson Aleczander Poynter, his brother Chuck Taylor and his sisters Mary Durham and Norma Aro.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, located at 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, Michigan. A service will follow at 12:30 PM at the funeral home.
Following the funeral service, Joe will be laid to rest next to his wife Jacqueline and daughter Stephanie at Lapham Cemetery in Salem Township, Michigan. A committal service with full military honors will take place.
Joe A. Taylor’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, love, and family. He will be missed dearly but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
