Joan Marie Mountford (Gregory) 74, of Canton, MI; passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on the afternoon of November 14, 2015. Born to William B. and Margaret Gregory (Rockwell) in Detroit, MI on August 3, 1941; she was raised and attended schools in the Detroit Metro area. She attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI and graduated in 1963 with a degree in Horticulture. Joan married her loving husband of more than 19 years, Dennis Mountford on June 21, 1968 in Franklin, MI. They remained married until Dennis's death on July 31, 1987. Joan worked at Parmenter's Flower Shop in downtown Birmingham and then spent many years working at Moehring Woods Flowers in Grosse Pointe Woods. Joan had an incredibly charitable outlook on the world, and tried her best to make it a better place. She was an extremely active volunteer, sewing hundreds of dresses for Little Dresses for Africa. She also supported many other charity organizations. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Joan is survived by her sons: David (Susan) and Christopher (Jennifer) Mountford of Grand Haven, MI; daughter: Laura (Christopher) Weller of Plymouth, MI; and five grandchildren: Alexis, Aidan, Emily, Andrew, and Colin. Funeral Service to be held on Thursday, November 19th, 2015 at 11am at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main St., Plymouth. Friends may visit on Wednesday, Nov. 18th from 4pm until 8pm and Thursday, at 10am until the service at 11am.
