Jimmy Douglas Porter passed away February 2, 2017, at the age of 85, surrounded by family. He is deeply loved and will be missed by his wife Dolly, his children Connie (George) Kamm and Judy Sturgil, his grandchildren Michelle, Tina, Ryan, Eric, Jimmy and Ruth, his 15 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. He is also the dear step father of John (Nancy) Duncan, Vicky (Eric) Heid and Charles LaCroix and step grandfather to Madison and Riley Heid. Jimmy is the dear brother of Charles Porter, Johnny Porter, Vance Porter, Barbara Barry, Donna Tepsenhart and Patricia Hammonds.
Jimmy was the owner-operator of J.D. Porter House Moving and Raising which was located in Ecorse, Michigan. He wrote the rules and regulation for house moving and raising for the state of Michigan. He was also contracted to move many structures in Greenfield Village, Dearborn. James, as Dolly liked to call him, was happiest when he was surrounded by his large family. He will be sorely missed by many.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 11th, 10am, at the First United Methodist Church, 45201 N. Territorial Rd., Plymouth. Friends may visit at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, Friday, from 3pm until 8pm and at church, Saturday beginning at 9am. He will then be entombed at Knollwood Cemetery, Canton, Michigan.
