Jean Wall, age 90, of Northville, was born in Pleasantville, N.Y. Later, she and her parents moved to Mt. Kisco, also in New York State. When she was 13 years old, tragedy struck the family when her beloved brother, John, drowned in a boating accident. He was 20.
Both of her parents were born in Scotland. Some of her relatives still live in Edinburgh. After her high school graduation, the family moved to St Petersburg, Florida. Jean soon found work as a waitress. She has waitressed in North Conway, New Hampshire, and in New York City. While in New York, she took business courses, and in her spare time she waitressed in Childs restaurant. Later she did her bit for the war effort when she worked in Mobile, Alabama, for an airplane parts company. She decided to come to Michigan because she felt business opportunities were better; also her aunt and uncle lived in Detroit. It didnt take her very long to land a job with General Motors. She retired in 1977, after 25 years of service. She worked with a woman who introduced her to a cousin that was in the service. They corresponded until the war ended. She met him once or twice when he came home on leave. After the war, they dated and were married in 1946.
She loved to travel and had many memorable trips including the western states, Scotland, Hawaii, and Scandinavia. She was also an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles and do needlework.
Preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth P. Wall, mother and father, Jean and Alexander Riddoch, and brother John Riddoch. Dearest mother of Carol (John) Collins, Phyllis (Kevin) Cullen and Brian (Theresa) Wall. Loving grandmother of Rory, Ryan, Devin, and Darin(Jenna) Collins, and Lia and Kenny Wall. Great grandmother of Makenah, Asher, and Ricky Collins.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, 10:00am from the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main, Plymouth. Visitation Wednesday 3-9pm. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
