James William Hayes

Passed away at Ashley Court of Brighton on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the age of 83. James was born in Detroit on July 8, 1928, the son of Luther H. and Gladys ( Hogarth ) Hayes. He graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit and attended Lawrence Tech. He served in the United States Army after World War II in Japan where he worked at Hiroshima doing clean up work after the atomic bomb blast. From 1949 until his retirement in 2006 he worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Design Modeling Center in Dearborn. In 1953 he married Mary L. Roeder and together they shared 53 years of married life. Mary passed away in 2006. Jim loved to garden and to carve in wood and was also a member of Blazing Star Masonic Lodge # 565 F. & A. M. of Detroit. As his family stated, Jim was a " true Christian ", a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth for over 30 years, an extremely patriotic citizen and a great family person, his wife and children and grandchildren meant everything to him. He is survived by his children Cheryl ( Shannon ) Kelley, Sharon ( John ) Heslip, Gail ( Louis ) Denski and James ( Shannon ) Hayes. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Steven, Sarah, Nick, Ryan, Josh, Izzy, Gabby and Annie and three great grandchildren, Chase, Tobias and Evelyn. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Friday from 1pm until 9pm. Funeral services will be held at his church, the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, 701 Church Street, Plymouth on Saturday at 10am. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30am until the time of the service. Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
