James Anthony Dray of Redford Township and Plymouth, Michigan, passed away peacefully July 27, 2011, in Naples, Florida, where he had been residing the past year. James was born November 14, 1922, in Buffalo, New York.
James honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as a B24 tail gunner during World War II. He flew thirty-seven missions for which he received decorations. He attended Wayne State University and accepted a position with Michigan Bell Telephone where he distinguished himself with a thirty-seven year career before retiring. He served as a Post Commander at the Plymouth VFW and was a member of the Optimist Club and Plymouth Elks.
His greatest achievement centered on the family his wife, Lorraine, and he built together with their two daughters. He adored his three grandchildren and enjoyed watching and supporting their growth into successful individuals. He loved shopping, winter in Michigan, golf, the shooting range, and afternoon coffee at McDonalds.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lorraine (Green) Dray. He is survived by his two daughters: Valerie (Dray) Mathews, Son-in-Law David Mathews, and Grandson James Mathews from Chicago, Illinois and Cynthia (Dray) Gayer, Son-in-Law Thomas Gayer, Granddaughter Lorraine Lee Gayer, and Grandson Thomas (TG) Gayer from Naples, Florida.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday August 15, 2011, 12 noon at The First United Methodist Church of Plymouth, 45201 N. Territorial Rd., Plymouth. Friends may visit at church beginning at 11am. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth with Military Honors.
