Jack Gilbert Prystup, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 1, 2024, at Medilodge of Plymouth in Plymouth, Michigan. He was 86 years old.
Born on September 18, 1937, to the late Stanley and Mary (Lillian) Pryzstup (née Price), Jack was a cherished member of his community and made friends wherever he went. Known for his carpentry skills, Jack possessed a remarkable talent for woodworking and had a passion for rescuing wood from historic Michigan barns.
He briefly served in the Air Force Reserves in San Antonio, Texas, and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for a few years, but he always returned to his beloved hometown of Plymouth as fast as he could. An avid Michigan sportsman, Jack loved hunting and fishing. He also found joy in caring for his beloved cat, Tigger, coin collecting, and gardening. He had a thirst for knowledge, particularly in history, and he was particularly fascinated by former US presidents.
Jack had a great appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He savored every moment spent enjoying a good meal with family or friends, sipping on a never-empty cup of coffee at Big Boy or Dunkin Donuts, and he delighted in watching sappy Hallmark Christmas movies, finding joy in their heartwarming tales.
Jack married Sandra Clark (née Ortman) in 1961. They were married for twenty years and had seven children. He is survived by his children, Sharon, Peter (Robin), Louis (Jeanne), Joseph (Ona), Stephen (Tina), Clare (Dom), and Catherine (Julian), as well as his ten grandchildren, Jessica Stabenow, Evan, Eli and Eon Prystup, Gabe, Chelsea, and Hannah Cook, Riley Barrientes, Luciana and Leo Schroeder, and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Robertson and Hibana Quimby.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Medilodge of Plymouth, as well as the in-house hospice caregivers who helped him transition peacefully.
