Jack passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Bostford Hospital, after being involved in a hit and run incident on New Years Day. Jack was 81 years of age. He was born in Kettle Island, Kentucky, on June 22, 1930, the son of William C. and Alice (Jones) Hoskins. His early years were spent in Kentucky, where he graduated from the Bell County High School. In 1950, he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps and served until 1952. Jack then came to Michigan for additional schooling and took a job with General Motors at the Romulus plant, from which he retired in 1997. In 1955, he married his sweetheart of 56 years, Dorothy M. (nee Robbins). During his time with the Marines, Jack became interested in marathon running; the first run he did was with the Marines in Washington D.C. For years he enjoyed running and participated in many Detroit Free Press Marathons. After running became a little more difficult, Jack substituted walking, normally two miles every day. In fact, he was walking when hit by this unknown hit and run driver. He loved sports, always keeping up with his back home high school team, and he was also an avid fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Paul Chris Hoskins and Allen (Lori) Hoskins; his two granddaughters, Ally and Ashley; and three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, on Friday from 5pm until 8pm. Funeral service Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 11am with Pastor Steve Brown of Parkview Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia, where the Marines will render military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association www.heart.org
