Mary Helene Scharf-Sieloff of Canton passed away on January 3, 2017 at the age of 90. Mary was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 8, 1926 to her parents, Angus and Mary (nee Gillis) McDonald. Mary’s mother passed away when she was only two years old. She and her sister, Rita were raised in Detroit by their father with the help of Christina McKinnon, who later married their father.
Mary attended Western High School in Detroit and later fulfilled her lifelong goal of being a devoted wife and mother. Above all else in life, she cherished and enjoyed spending time with her family. Mary was always there to love and support whenever needed. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Scharf for 28 years and the late Francis Sieloff for 27 years. Later in life, she enjoyed travelling throughout the United States and several countries in Europe.
She is the cherished mother of Edward (Louise) Scharf, James (Darleen) Scharf, Karen (Roger) Saunders, Robert Scharf, the late Kenneth Scharf and the late Kevin Scharf; step-mother of Sister Andrea, RSM, Mark (Claudette) Sieloff, Bruce (Nancy) Sieloff and Brian (Diana) Sieloff. Proud grandmother of 13, great-grandmother of 12 and dearest sister of Rita Jean Baynai Doughty. Mary is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Friends may visit on Thursday, January 5th from 3pm to 8pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. There will be a Rosary service at 6pm.
A funeral mass will be held at 11am on Friday, January 6th at St. Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Road, Livonia. Visitation at the church will be from 10:30am until the time of the funeral mass.
Mary will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit on Saturday, January 7th.
