Helen Frances Kerstens

Helen Frances Kerstens passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township, on Friday, September 23, 2011. Helen was born in Detroit, on January 2, 1923, the daughter of Dervine T. and Margaret A. (Doherty) Gouin. In 1945, she married Edward Kerstens, and together they raised three children. Edward passed away in 2002, after they shared 57 years together. Helen worked at various times with Michigan Bell and AT&T as an operator, retiring in the mid 1980's. She loved to read and was a volunteer with the Plymouth Historical Museum. Together with her husband, she traveled to many exciting places, including Ireland, Hawaii, the Netherlands, Aruba, and here in Michigan, over to Saugatuck. Edward was a member of the Plymouth Lions Club, and she enjoyed helping him out with various activities of the club. She is survived by her children, Adrianna Hunt, Garrett (Elizabeth) Kerstens and Martin (Elizabeth) Kerstens. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and her brother, Joseph.A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 12 noon until 5pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. A Memorial Service will occur at 1pm.
