Harry Ramsay

Harry Ramsay age 96 of Asheville, North Carolina passed away on August 13, 2024.

He was born on October 22, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to his parents, the late Winifred Elizabeth (née Simpson) and Peter Ramsay. He is the beloved and devoted husband of Diana (née Lawthers) Ramsay. They were married in August 1991. Harry is the loving father of Carrie (Gary) Blair, Peter (Sherri) Ramsay, Donald Lee Ramsay, Douglas (Kelly) Ramsay and three step-children, Michael (Kris) Stratton, James H. Stratton and Jeanne (Orlando) Fuller; proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Harry is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his sister Claire Arlene Greenwald as well as many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his sisters, Phyllis Avis and Joyce Adams. 

Harry graduated from Northwestern High School and Henry Ford Trade School. He studied two years at Highland Park Junior College. Later, he proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Navy. 

After returning from his military service, he began his 46-year career as a Special Machine and Robotic Design Engineer. His positions were mostly supervisory in various industries in the Detroit area.

He was an active member in the community holding office with the Engineering Society of Detroit and was Co-President with Skyland Twirlers.

Harry’s greatest treasure, above all, was his family. He is dearly loved and will be deeply missed. 

A private Celebration and honoring of  his life is being planned and will be held at a later date.
