Passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township, Michigan on June 9, 2014 at the age of 89. Harold was born in his parent's, Jefferson and Dorothy G. ( nee Watson ) home on Harvey Street in Plymouth, on June 1, 1925. He graduated from Plymouth High School where he had been the drum major for the high school band. Harold joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS LST 666 in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. He saw action during the Philippian campaigns. After his service to his country he returned to Plymouth, which he made his home his entire life and went to work for Michigan Bell working for them for 40 years ending his career as a security manager. Harold was active in many organizations. He was a Commander of VFW Post 6695 and was the founder and field leader of the Mayflower VFW Color Guard Championship team. Harold served as President of the Plymouth Theater Guild and the Plymouth Rock & Mineral Club and was a Vice Captain of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Hal loved music and served as band leader for the Hal Young Quintet. One organization he served proudly in was as a founding member and Vice President of the Plymouth Veteran's Memorial Park. He also served as an All American Contest judge. Harold is survived by his wife Loretta and daughters Janet C. ( Richard ) Wears and Leanne T. Young. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Jeffery ( Sreelatha ) Wears, Douglas ( Alicia ) Wears and Patrick Wears and his great grandchild Aelia. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Friday from 2 pm until 9 pm where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 am.
