Ferrey, Gerran E. It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gerran Ferrey, in his 64th year, at his home in Plymouth Michigan, on January 25, 2023.
Son of Allan and the late (2010) Anne Ferrey of Burlington, Ontario. Loving husband of Margaret Chadwick and dear father to Edward and Catherine, brother of Catherine (Don) Woodman, brother-in-law to Helen (John) Ecker and John (Brenda) Chadwick.
Gerrran grew up in Sudbury and Toronto, Ontario and studied business at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. It’s there where he met Margaret, the love of his life and future wife. Upon graduation (B.Com) Gerran joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and served his country in the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Navy in numerous postings including CFB Petawawa, CFB Esquimalt and Namibia (United Nations). In 1992, with the rank of Captain, Gerran received his voluntary discharge from the CAF.
Gerran’s military training and expertise led him to pursue a career in logistics. For 30 years he worked for C.H. Robinson, a worldwide leader in supply chain and logistics management services. He managed major corporate offices in Detroit, Miami and Montreal. He enjoyed a well-deserved reputation as a top financial performer and possessed a genuine talent in identifying and cultivating future company leaders. Gerran retired from C.H. Robinson in 2022.
Gerran and Margaret made Plymouth Michigan their home and it’s there where they raised their children and developed numerous lifelong friendships.
Family was most important, and nothing gave Gerran more pleasure than time at the cottage with them. Gerran had spent much of his youth in Ontario’s cottage country and his passion for the place was infectious. He taught the family how to water ski and instilled a passion for boating, canoeing, sailing, skating, snowmobiling, and so many other outdoor activities at the lake.
Whether leading his teams in the Army, C.H. Robinson, or boating at the lake, Gerran had a way to make life feel so sweet. His limitless energy, positive attitude and heart-warming smile made him such a joy to be around. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Gerran was looking forward to a retirement that included more time with his children and travels with Margaret. Sadly, Gerran died suddenly at home while clearing snow after a recent storm.
The family will be hosting two celebrations of Gerran’s life. A visitation and memorial celebration will be held at the Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home, 2241 New St., Burlington, Ontario, on Wednesday February 1, 2023. Visitation at 3:00 pm, celebration of life at 4:45 pm. A visitation and memorial service will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral home, 280 South Main St., Plymouth, Michigan, on Friday February 3, 2023. Visitation at 4:00 pm, followed by memorial service at 6:00 pm.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Gerran greatly appreciated to the Kawartha Land Trust at kawarthalandtrust.org or the American Heart Association at www.heart.org
