George Lee Aton passed away, at the age of 87, on October 29, 2017, in Livonia, Michigan. George was born January 7, 1930 in Springfield, IL, to George and Lula Aton. His family moved to Michigan when George was young. George married Mary Schwarz May 5, 1949. They had a wonderful life together for 68 years, until Mary’s passing last December.
George was a minister for over 50 years in the Church of God. He pastored churches in Stockbridge, Jackson, Tecumseh, Trenton, Ann Arbor and Lake Odessa. After retiring from pastoring, George and Mary moved back to Canton. George drove for Enterprise, until he was 84.
George was preceeded in death by his beautiful wife Mary; his parents, brother John Aton; sisters Gladys Owen, Mamie Provow, and Meddie Nance, Priscilla Aton; and daughters-in-law Diane Aton and Teresa Aton.
He is survived by his three children, John Aton; Patricia (Doyle) Lawson; and Tony (Jeannie) Aton. Six grandchildren, Nicole (Bradlee) Gregory; Christopher Aton; Lee (Sherrie) Lawson; Michael (Katondra) Lawson; Anthony (Anel) Aton, and Amanda (Justin) Steblay; special nieces, Sherry Aton and Rhonda Aton; 11 great-grand children, and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Carmickle, of Tekonsha; along with many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly.
Friends may visit the Schrader Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan on Thursday, November 2, from 2:00 to 8:00. The funeral service will be Friday, November 3rd, at 11:00 AM. George will be laid to rest next to his beloved Mary, at Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Westland.
