George Franklin Woodard

George Franklin Woodard, age 87 of Plymouth passed away on September 30, 2020.

George was born on January 30, 1933 in Spickard, Missouri to his parents, the late Charles L. and May I. (née Leeper) Woodard. He is the beloved and devoted husband of Patricia (née Bobola) Woodard and the late Nancy Woodard. George and Patricia were married on December 15, 1979 and last year, they celebrated 40 years of marriage. He is the loving father of Suzanne (the late Thomas) Fluharty, Darline Woodard and Debra (John) Bohnet and step-father of Kimberly Rawlings, Timothy (Heather) Rawlings and the late, Kevin Rawlings; proud grandfather of 5, great-grandfather of 11 and and great-great grandfather of 7. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his siblings, Beaulah (the late James) Rickman, Vern (Eula) Woodard, Charles (the late Geraldine) Woodard, Jr., Gearald (the late Janet) Woodard, Robert Woodard and Shirley (the late James Longleliere Woodard. He is pre-deceased by his sisters and brother, Edna (the late James) Muholland, Janet (Richard) Culbertson and Earl (the late Thelma) Woodard.

George had a very successful career as a professional welder. He was more than a skilled tradesman. His family knew him to be “an awesome welder”. He could expertly join metal parts and polish and smooth out surfaces to complete a superior product. He was proud of his work and will always be remembered by his orange and white polka dot welder’s cap worn by him every day. George loved his outdoor hobbies of hunting and fishing. George was an amazing woodworker. As far as creating things goes, wood was an incredible material to work with. He made toys and toy chests for holding the toys he made for his children, grandchildren and friends. He made decorative household items and would sometimes take orders and sell some of his unique items to others. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Whether it was the crisp fall mornings and dry leaves underfoot in the woods or the feel of a rod and reel in his hand, the sound of the water and the sun in the sky, it was all a meaningful bond with nature and relaxation and made it so enjoyable for him in his life. Above his career and his hobbies, George’s greatest joy in life were his children, his step-children and his grandchildren. He loved each of them with his whole heart and cherished all of the moments he spent with them. His wife, Patricia, and his family and friends are truly missing him and will always have wonderful memories of George.

Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral service at the Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will resume after the Funeral Service until 9:00 P.M.

George will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth on Monday, October 5th.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 9451 South Main Street, Plymouth, MI 48170. Contribution envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service will be private for immediate family and by invitation only from the immediate family. Per the order of the Governor of Michigan, the Funeral Service must be kept to a maximum of ten (10) people in attendance. Please refrain from handshaking and embracing family members and one another.

For those who cannot attend and wish to view the Funeral Service in a safe environment, the funeral will be live streamed.

Please be advised that in observance of the Governmental Order from the State of Michigan and the current COVID-19 situation, when in attendance at the visitation and funeral service, we kindly ask for the safety and well-being of the families we serve and for your health, that everyone practice social distancing and consideration for other guests in attendance.

All those who attend the visitation or funeral service are also required by order of the Governor of Michigan to wear a face mask.
