Gary Lee Temple

Gary Lee Temple passed away, March 24, 2015, in Plymouth, Michigan. Gary was born on July 22, 1945 the son of Orin J. and Esther E. Temple (Terrill) in Flint, Michigan. He is survived by his brother Robert (Patricia), nephews Brian Temple, Mark Temple, Eric McLaurin and niece Kristen Chase. He was preceded by his sister Janice McLaurin. Gary retired as a Science and Math Teacher from Pioneer Middle School in Plymouth, Michigan after 33 years of service. He also coached football and baseball at Salem High School. He receive his BA in Science Education from Eastern Michigan University and his MS in environmental Science Education from University of Michigan. Gary had a full and interesting life. His humor and creativity enriched the lives of many people. Gary was “born to teach” it was his first passion. His next greatest passion was his music. He was a accomplished classical tenor, he sang in many church choirs and was a soloist for weddings, funerals, and church services. He was a long time member of the Max Davey Singers. He also sang in musical reviews by Mike Whorf from WJR with guests: Steve Allen, Pat Boone, Sherrie Lewis, Roger Williams, Ed Asner, and Jerome Hines. Gary later became involved in stage shows with St. Dunstan’s, Village Players, Starlight Players and the Jewish Community Center. He performed in the following shows, Two by Two, Cole, Guys and Dolls, Damn Yankees, Sherlock’s Last Case, Fiddler on the Roof, Gypsy, Once Upon a Mattress, My Fair Lady, Funny Girl, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Little Shop of Horrors, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, La Cage Aux Folles, and others. He loved the outdoors having been a backpacker, canoer, white water rafter, mountain climber and traveler. He has traveled to all 50 states and also traveled around South America. Since Gary's retirement, he has been an active member of The Senior Center in Plymouth Township which is called The Friendship Station. He has provided leadership in many roles including serving as President for numerous years.
