Garnett Samuel Gentelia of Plymouth, passed away December 24, 2016, at the age of 81. He was born in Detroit on April 16, 1935 to Samuel and Frances (nee Vining) Gentelia. Garnett is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Joanne (nee Witkowski) Gentelia, his two loving children Lisa (Mark) Pierson, and Marie (Bill) Everitt, 4 precious grandchildren Marisa, John, Laura, and Robert, his dear brother Patrick (Ruth) Gentelia, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and 4 of his siblings, John, David, Rosemary, and Joseph.
Garnett proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. During his free time, Garnett loved to spend time at Mitchell’s Bay, Ontario. He had a campsite and boat there for 30 years. He loved to go camping and fishing, but above of all, he loved to pull his children water skiing and later his grandchildren tubing. He and Joanne sometimes used Caesar’s Windsor as a “weigh station” traveling from Mitchell’s Bay back to Plymouth. More recently, Garnett also enjoyed flower gardening and feeding the birds outside his home.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 28, from 2-8pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main, Plymouth, 48170. There will be a Rosary Service at 7pm.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 29, at 2:30pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 44800 Warren, Canton, 48187. Family and friends may begin visiting at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army. Envelopes will be provided at the Funeral Home.
