Edward Frank Smith of Plymouth, passed away August 27, 2016, at the age of 86. He was born in Plymouth, Michigan, to Frank and Helen (nee Sadlej) Smith. Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Carol Smith, his 2 loving children - son, Jeff Smith (Marianna) and daughter, Freda Klaassen (Scott), his 2 precious grandchildren Dallas and Gavin, and his dear sister Dorothy Archer. Edward was preceded in death by both of his parents, Frank and Helen, and 7 of his siblings - Frances, Mary Klinski, Bernice Kopenski, Jenny Lorenz, Sophie Preston, Bob Smith, and Ted Smith.
Ed was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, building dollhouses, designing and building birdhouses, and reading. Ed worked at Unisys (formerly Burroughs) for 40 years where he met his wife, Carol. Together, Ed and Carol attended the same church for 56 years. Ed served as Deacon, Trustee, Board Secretary, and Sunday School Teacher. He willing gave countless hours of his time volunteering on the Senior Committee and working in the church kitchen. It was common to hear people say that you could always count on Ed!
Ed had throat cancer surgery in 1987. After the surgery, he and his wife asked God to give him 15 years just as God answered Hezekiah's prayer in 2 Kings 20:1-6. God answered that prayer and gave him 28 years!
Visitation for Ed will be Friday, September 2, from 9-11am at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main Street, Plymouth, 48170. His Funeral Service will begin immediately following visitation at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ed may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O.
