Passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the age of 86. Earl was born in Detroit on March 22, 1929, the son of Frederick and Mary ( Hawken ) Nitchman. He graduated from Highland Park High School and soon after went to work for the Bendix Corporation for whom he worked 35 years retiring in 1989. Earl loved to play golf and boating and tending to his yard were other pleasures he enjoyed. Traveling, to Florida and Europe also brought happiness to his life yet above all, was his family. In the late 1940's, he met Marilyn O'Reilly who became his wife in 1950 and together they shared a marriage of almost 65 years. Marilyn summed up their lives together as a " lot of fun. " In addition to his beloved wife, Earl is survived by his children, Brady ( Barbara ) Nitchman, Carrie ( Karl ) Majeske and Sally ( Kevin ) Smith. He was the proud grandfather of Joel ( Piper ) Nitchman, Amelia ( Michael ) Schmeding, Susan ( Michael ) Martinchek, Michael Nitchman, Hattie, Blair and Zeke Majeske and Marilyn and Lily Smith and great-grandfather of Autumn, Andrew and Aiden Schmeding and Charlotte Nitchman. Earl also leaves behind his sisters, Jean Sullivan, Catherine Quinn and Bernadine Miles. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 pm until 8 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9 am until the time of the funeral mass at 9:30 am at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 Haggerty Road, ( South of 5 Mile ) Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in the name of Earl W. Nitchman to American Cancer Society, 20450 Civic Center Drive, Southfield, MI 48076. Due to the Plymouth Art Fair entrance to the funeral home is from the east on Main Street. The city posts signs for guidance to the funeral home.
