Earl Kenneth Williams

Earl Williams passed away at Annapolis-Oakwood Hospital in Wayne on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the age of 88. Earl was born in Seco, Kentucky, the son of John E. and Pearl ( Hughes ) Williams. The family moved to Michigan and Earl graduated from River Rouge High School. From 1943 until 1946 Earl served in the United States Navy both in the European and Pacific areas of operations aboard various naval vessels, including the USS Nevada, one of the few ships to get underway during the attack at Pearl Harbor. After serving his country Earl earned his B.S. degree from Lawrence Technical College and later a Masters in Business from Central Michigan University. He worked at Ford Motor from 1953 until 1990 as an engineer dealing with line assembly processing. He was also a Certified Professional Engineer. In 1947 he married Wilma ( nee Yoder ) and together they shared a 66 year marriage. Earl loved to play golf and also he designed and produced his own golf clubs. Other interests included picture painting, photography, writing religious tracts and gardening, especially " babying his roses. " Earl is survived by is wife Wilma and children Dean ( Sharon ), Larry ( Deana ) and Carol Oblak. His grandchildren, Lesley Williams, Lauren ( Joseph ) Lafferty and Robert Watson and great grandchildren Evalynn and Eloise along with sisters Clara Maguire and Dona Martinez also survive. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 2 pm until 7:30 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth where funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10 am Pastor Richard Westlund officiating. Private interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery where military honors will be rendered. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Schultz-Lewis Child & Family Services, P.O. Box 471, Valparaiso, IN 46384 would be appreciated.
