Dr. Robert B. Evans, of Plymouth passed away on September 19, 2016. Dr. Evans was born on April 19, 1931 in Detroit to his parents, Belton Smith and Mary Florence (nee Walker) Evans. He moved to Plymouth in 1956.
Dr. Evans graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School. Later in his career, he taught part-time at the Dental School. He was a member of the American Dental Association and the Plymouth Dental Society. While proudly serving his country on active duty in the United States Air Force for two years, he was able to practice dentistry. Upon return from the military, Dr. Evans also was very instrumental during the 1960s when the addition of fluoride in the community water system occurred for the City and Township of Plymouth.
He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, an active member of the Plymouth Area Jaycees, served on the Plymouth Foundation Kiwanis Board and was a past President of the club. Dr. Evans was one of only four remaining charter members of the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Plymouth.
Dr. Evans was known for his generosity. He tirelessly gave of himself for his family, his friends, the community and strangers. His involvement with Kids Against Hunger helped to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the U.S. and starving children throughout the world. His private pilot license allowed him to become a LifeLine Pilot. These volunteer pilots come from all walks of life and Dr. Evans was one of them. He provided those with medical and financial need with access to free air transportation on small aircraft and personally piloted the plane to get them to their destination for their medical needs. Dr. Evans was a very active member of his church, First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. He was a Deacon and also headed up the Capital Fund Drive resulting in the installation of an elevator at the church.
Dr. Robert Evans is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and the many lives he touched in the Plymouth community throughout his lifetime.
Dr. Evans is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Sally of 60 years. They were married on June 23, 1956. He is the father of five children, Bob (Lori) Evans, Michael (Catherine) Evans, Susan Evans, Cameron (Sue) Evans, and the late Sara Ann Evans. He also leaves his son-in-law John (Rita) Danish. Dr. Evans is the proud Grandfather of ten – Carlie (Josh) Lott, Kayla (Josh) Tester, Marina Evans, Evan Danish, Valentina Evans, Nathan Danish, Dimitri Evans, Haley Evans, Jacob Evans and the late Meghan Danish and two great-grandchildren, Piper Lott and Ryleigh Lott. He is the dearest brother of the late Florence Evans and Mary Alice Bushong.
A private funeral service will be held for the family at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on September 24th. Dr. Evans will then be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth next to his daughter, Sara Ann and grandchild, Meghan. A memorial service and luncheon will be held on Saturday, October 22nd at First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. Time to visit with family at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.
