Dorothy Jean West passed away July 27, 2014 at the age of 90. She was born July 31, 1923 in Detroit to Lloyd Milton Beall and Frances (Lotarski) Beall. Dorothy was preceded in death by husbands, Michael M. Spitz and James S. West. She is the dear mother of Karen Eve (Oliver) McClure, Deborah S. (Robert) Davenport, Michael M (Elizabeth) Spitz, Matthew J. Spitz, Dorothy Jean (Brian) Spitz-Wolcott and David Charles Spitz, dear grandmother of Lisa (Robert) Treat, Michele (Steven) Parr, Oliver James Wolcott, Briana Eileen (Paulo) Hernandez, Michael Patrick Wolcott, David Carl Spitz, Duncan K. Spitz and Allison E. Spitz, great grandmother of Aleyna, Lilly, Cole, Dominic, Cecilia, Paulo and Hudson. She is also survived by her sister Marylinn (Charles) Carry and was preceded in death by 4 siblings. Dorothy was a homemaker and a retired Beautician. She was born in Detroit and moved to Northville where she went to High School. While playing baseball at Ford Field, she met Michael Spitz from Plymouth High School. Even though the schools were huge rivals, they fell in love, were later married, and moved to Plymouth in 1941. Dorothy served her country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She worked with the Navy in the Washington D.C. area during the war years. She is a former member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion where she served as Chaplain. She was very athletic, and was an ice skater, swimmer and played tennis whenever she was able to. She was proud to have won a tennis tournament at one time. Dorothy also loved attending aerobics at the Plymouth Cultural Center until illness prevented her from doing so. She loved to play Bingo. However, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially babysitting her grandchildren. Dorothy was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by many. A Funeral Mass will take place Thursday July 31, 2014,(Dorothy's birthday) at 10:30am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 N. Territorial Rd., Plymouth. Friends may visit Wednesday 2pm until 8pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth and Thursday at church beginning at 10am. She will then be laid to rest next to her husband, Michael at Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorials may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
