Dorothy Mahannah passed away quietly, Tuesday January 27th, 2015 at the age of 93. Who was Dorothy Mahannah? My Mom was born in 1921 to Lawrence and Agnes Pflanz in Des Moines, IA. She married Douglas W Squires in 1947. They had 2 children, Douglas and Pamela. After her husband’s death in 1963 she became a single mother of 2 children working and holding the family together. Dorothy married Everett A (Bud) Mahannah in 1966. She went to Catholic schools where she probably felt the rap of the nun's ruler before she graduated. During World War II she worked as a phone operator at AT&T. Dorothy later worked as keypunch supervisor in the insurance industry. After she and Bud retired they moved to Florida, traveled extensively and donated their time in soup kitchens & various veterans organizations. Her 2 main philosophies were: 1) Don't spend more than you have. 2) Give a guy a hand up when he falls, but kick him in the butt if he wants to hold your hand forever. She was a wonderful mother. We are very happy to have had her with us as long as we did. She is survived by her son Douglas (Barbara) Squires, two grandsons, Mark (Kristin) Squires and Jeffrey Squires and 2 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and her daughter, Pamela. A memorial service may take place later in the year. Memorials can be made to the Capuchin Kitchen, http://www.cskdetroit.org/donation_info, or USO, https://secure.uso.org/?sc=WEBDONATION
