Doris (Hurt) Johnson was born in Desloge, Missouri on July 23, 1931 and passed away at home on December 11, 2018 surrounded by family.
Doris was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence for 61 years, the cherished mother of Susan (George) Ontko, Sally (Ed Peterson) Johnson, and Amy (Greg Black) Johnson, and the dearest grandmother of Ryan (Victoria) Peterson, Erik (Karena) Peterson, Emily Ontko, Henry Black, and Cassidy Black.
Doris was the youngest of six children of Albert and Martha Hurt. She was preceded in death by brothers Arvil and Earl and sisters Anna Lee, Edna Mae, and Berniece.
Mom was an active member of Newburg United Methodist Church for 58 years and continued to volunteer for rummage sales and pasty making well into her 80’s. She was also a long-time Red Cross volunteer along with Dad and together they conducted more than 100 blood drives at Newburg UMC. Mom loved to garden and was a forty-year member and past president of Livonia Garden Club. Mom enjoyed nature and crafting and never met a pinecone, sweet gumball, or piece of barn wood she couldn’t craft into something beautiful. Mom loved to travel and was delighted that she had the opportunity to see so much of the world after Dad retired. More than anything, Mom loved her family and friends and spending time with her grandchildren. She brought joy to all who knew her and she will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at Newburg United Methodist Church, 36500 Ann Arbor Trail, on Saturday, January 19th at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions can be made to Newburg United Methodist Church. Share a memory with the family at www.schrader-howell.com.
