Passed away at his home on Thanksgiving Day at the age of 80. Don was born in Detroit the son of John C. and Lula ( Burton ) Chumbley. He served with the United States Army in Korea after the armistice and after his military service obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees in education from Eastern Michigan University. He taught history, but for most of his career with the Plymouth-Canton school system he was a high school guidance counselor retiring in 1995. In 1979 he married Joyce Willis, she preceded him in death in 1997. Two of Don's great passions were his love of boating, University of Michigan football, home building and remodeling projects and politics. He is survived by his children Karen ( Paul Killick ) and Linda ( Bill Trubey ) Chumbley, Elaine ( Dan ) Flood and Steve ( Laurie ) Willis. Also surviving are his grandchildren Sophia Chumbley, Lindsay Flood, Nicholas and Daniel Willis. Don also leaves behind his dear friend of 15 years, Barbara Roble. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 2 pm until 5 pm.
