Donald F. Rossin

Donald passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township at the age of 68. Don was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on January 15, 1947, the son of Elmer H. and Janet ( Kennedy ) Rossin. He attended school until the fifth grade in Melrose and then the family moved to Springfield, Massachusetts where he attended Holy Cross School and then Cathedral High School. From 1966 until 1969 Don was studying at Boston University where he received his B.S. degree in Business Administration with a major in Operations Management. After his graduation he entered the United States Army and was posted in Hanau, Germany where he was responsible for dispatching aircraft and maintaining certification records for thirty pilots, ten helicopters and five fixed winged aircraft all in support of command level personnel in Europe. After completing his military service Don moved to California working as an Operations Manager for Bekins Company. In 1975, while still working for Bekins, Don returned to school at California State University where he received his MBA in 1977. From 1977 thru 1979 he was a Lecturer at California State teaching courses in Operations Management. In 1980 Don began work on his Ph.D. in Management, his major being Operations Management. He received his Doctorate in 1985. Until 1993 Don taught classes as an Assistant Professor at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. In 1994 he joined the faculty at the University of Michigan - Dearborn campus in the School of Management as Assistant Professor of Operations Management. In the winter term of 1995, Don served as the Coordinator of Special American Business Internship Training ( SABIT ) where he was responsible for developing and managing an educational program for Russian scientists interning at Ford Motor Company. Don was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor, Operations Management at the University of Michigan - Dearborn College of Business. Don established the undergraduate major in Supply Chain Management at the university. He was also proud of the fact that he was able to teach on-line to students around the world. Over the years Don taught thousands of students. He cared about his students and was always there for them. In his spare time Don enjoyed skiing, playing golf, Bridge and stamp collecting. Don is survived by his siblings, Peggy Chute, Brian Evelyn Rossin and Dr. Richard Rossin. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, David Dawn Chute, Katherine Matthew Dean, Daniel Rossin and Chloe Rossin and great nieces, Kay, Liam, Jacob Chute and Jack Dean.
