Diane Sue Coates

Diane Sue Coates (née  Dietle) age 86 of Plymouth, passed away on March 22nd, 2023.  Diane was born in Detroit on July 12th, 1936, to the late George and Dorothea (née Hendrickson) Dietle. 

She was the loving and devoted wife of A. Emerson Coates.  They were married on March 23, 1957.  Loving mother of Jeffrey (Patricia) Coates, Lori (Gary) Panicacci and Kimberly (Paul) Eiswerth; loving sister of Jim Dietle (Diane) and devoted “Grammy” of nine grandchildren; Brendan, Sean, Devon, Alesa, Dante, Ariel, Eric, Kevin, Michael and four great-grandchildren.  Diane also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will miss her and her kindness and beautiful smile including her sister-in-law Maxine (née Coates) Tudor.  

Diane was a member of Alpha XI Delta Sorority Western Wayne County Chapter, and past secretary, joining at MSU in 1954, where she also met her future husband, Emerson.  Diane loved making quilts, cross-stitching and knitting for family and friends; especially sweaters and hats for the new babies.  She also enjoyed baking bread and desserts and gardening.  

Diane was an accomplished swimmer, who would swim 50 miles or more during summers at the Newburgh Swim Club in Livonia.

A Memorial Gathering will take place Saturday, April 1st, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 46250 Ann Arbor Road, Plymouth, Michigan.  The Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 A.M.

Diane will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park, 35667 Eight Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan immediately following the Memorial Service.
