David D. Wert, age 68, passed away on March 5, 2018. He is the beloved husband of Patti (nee Henegar) for 36 years; loving and devoted father of two children, Derek Wert and Jennifer (Rob) Jarmusevich; proud grandfather of Callie and RJ. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his brother, Michael (Cathy) Wert. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Ruth, and his brother, Jeff.
David earned his Bachelor of Education Degree from Central Michigan University and his Master’s in Special Education from Eastern Michigan University.
Anyone who was a student of David’s knew him to be a great teacher. His own love of learning inspired students, and he provided to them the highest quality of education possible. He taught elementary special education and general education students for 37 years in the Plymouth-Canton Community School District. He began his career in the Cherry Hill School District, and then moved to Wisconsin to teach in a residential day treatment program for special education students. His career in Plymouth-Canton included teaching at Starkweather and Fiegel Elementary Schools. He began teaching at Hoben Elementary when it opened in 1988, and retired after 21 years there. He was Vice President of the Plymouth-Canton Educational Association and a long-time member of the PCEA Negotiation Team.
Dave’s love for his family was always most special at his cottage on Grand Traverse Bay. It was there that he loved to be with his family and friends, boating, charter fishing and enjoying the beauty of Lake Michigan.
Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Saturday, March 10th from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
The funeral service for David will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 11th at the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, 701 Church Street, Plymouth. Visitation at the church will begin at 1:00 P.M. There will be an Open House celebrating his life immediately following the service until 8:00 PM at his family home (46010 Academy Drive, Plymouth). All are welcome.
David will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia.
