Darlene S. Munfakh

Darlene S. Munfakh, age 78 of Plymouth passed away on January 14, 2024.

She was born on November 7, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to her parents, the late Stephany (née Savage) and Charles Kali.

After her high school graduation, Darlene received her Bachelor’s degree at Barry College in Miami, Florida and later, a Master’s degree in mathematics from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Darlene then began a successful thirty-year teaching career at Groves High School and retired in 2000. 

She loved to make quilts.  Every quilter is a mathematician.  Each part of the quilt contains geometric designs and require precise measurement skills.  She would visualize how all of the shapes can form a balanced pattern into one lovely quilt.

Darlene was an active member and volunteer at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Plymouth.  She was a Eucharistic Minister and enjoyed attending Bible Study.

Above all else, family was the most important thing in life to Darlene.  Family was her life.  She adored her grandchildren, and loved caring for them.  Darlene was always there for them through thick and thin sharing all of the ups and downs and the joys and sorrows.

Darlene is the beloved and devoted wife of the late Abe Munfakh; loving mother of Laila (Michael) Carr and Jennifer (Scott) Shaw and proud grandmother of Emily Carr, Noelle Carr and Colleen Shaw.  She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her brother, Stephen (Becky) Kali.

Darlene will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her laughter, kindness, and the everlasting impact she had on her family, friends and all those whose life was touched by her.  May she rest in eternal peace.

Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.  There will be a Rosary Service at 7:00 P.M.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 North Territorial Road, Plymouth, Michigan beginning on Friday, January 19^th, 2024.  Darlene will be in-state at 10:00 A.M. until the start of the Mass at 10:30 A.M.

She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Abe at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth.
