Charleston Darae Fobbs Charleston Darae Fobbs (Stony) born July 20, 1966 suddenly departed this world on September 18, 2013 due to a tragic automobile accident. His life accomplishments are unlimited and include his acceptance, through baptism, of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the young age of 10 years old. His earlier education was within the public and private schools of Dayton, Ohio until he decided it was time to explore an athletic career and then it was on to Detroit to live with his father and pursue football at Central High School. This led to a scholarship to the University of New Mexico where he completed a B.S. in Business Technology while serving as an active member of the Lobo football team throughout his college days. Charleston was an active leader in student organizations and was one of twelve students appointed to serve as an intern in the office of the Governor of the State of New Mexico. In the early nineties Charleston returned to his beloved Detroit to establish a career in a computer business (CSS) for which he was the CEO for ten years. His boundless energy lead him to begin working with youth as an associate head football coach for Cass Tech paving the way for three NFL players. His love for football turned into a love for softball and working with young people while training and shaping the softball careers of numerous aspiring athletes. In 1994, Charleston founded the Detroit Cannons a non-profit youth organization committed to bridging the gaps for urban youth to develop into tomorrow’s leaders. He was responsible for overseeing program implementation, coordinated a Summer Youth Developmental League, secured corporate sponsorships and facilitated more than 50 student athlete’s scholarship entry into college programs. His coaching experiences expanded to serving as a volunteer assistant softball coach for Michigan State University, which resulted in him leaving behind a second year appointment as the assistant coach for the Spartans softball team. Additionally, he worked with various other athletic and softball organizations both public and private, locally and nationally. He had winning records in softball and football, which resulted in numerous awards and accolades. Charleston leaves to mourn his beloved wife Lisa, step-daughter Hannah, father Charlie W. Fobbs of Detroit, mother Joan Fobbs-Wilson, Ph.D. from Alabama, a brother Charles of Detroit and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Viewing will take place at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home located at 280 S. Main St in Plymouth MI on Monday, September 23rd; from 12 pm to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at City Temple S.D.A. Church (8816 Grand River Ave, in Detroit) on Tuesday, September 24th at 12 noon. There will be a viewing beginning qt 10:30 am. Additionally, Interment will take place at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia, MI, immediately following the services.
