Charles passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the age of 89. He was born February 11, 1926 in Fredonia, Kentucky to Charles and Dovie Tramel. Charles married the love of his life, Charlotte Covert, on January 4, 1947. They were married for 67 years before Charlotte passed away in 2013. He is survived by his children: Laura (Bill) Steele, Dennis (Celia) Tramel, Charyl Tramel-Barnes, Keith (Suzanne) Tramel, Susan (Dan) Guastella, and Kathy Caccavelli. He was the proud grandfather of Eric (Amanda), Heather, Lindsey, MacKinsey, Stephanie, Robin, Alex, Brian (Ashley), Megan (Tom), Daniel (Teresa), Brooke (Todd), Evan, and Ian. He was the loving great-grandfather of Noah, Abby, Cameron, Marley, Shelby, Patrick, Julian, Kase, Kennedy, Blake, and soon to be born, Peyton. Charles is also survived by his sister, Erlene. He is preceded in death by his brother, Harry. Charles was a very patriotic man who served his country in the United States Navy in World War II. He reported for duty on his 18th birthday. At the age of 19, Charles was told to send all his personal belongings home, as well as any letters he needed to write, because their next mission was going to be a rough one. At the last minute, the mission was put on hold in anticipation of dropping the bomb that ended the war, and allowed the US to take occupation of Japan. Charles was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Woodworking was a life-long passion, and he won several ribbons, including a first place award at the state fair for his creations. He was a Past Master with the Masonic Findlater Lodge #475. Everyone who knew Charles liked him instantly. He was a well-read, jovial man with a great sense of humor. Charlie was a frequent patron and felt like part of the family at the Three Brothers Restaurant in Plymouth. All of the staff were like extended family members, and he was well known by many of the customers there. But most of all, Charles was dedicated to his wife, his family and his country. He was a most honorable and patriotic man. He was a tough act to follow and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main Street, Plymouth, 48170 on Sunday from 1-9pm and Monday from 1-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held Monday at 7:30pm at the funeral home. Charles will be interred at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442 on Tuesday at 11:30am where he will receive full military honors.
