Charles Edward Orr

Charles Edward Orr, born on February 3, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully in Canton on November 28, 2024.

Charles was preceded in death by his late wife, Linda Orr, and survived by his first wife, Karyn Orr, the mother of his children, Debra (Matt) Pendell and John "JC" Orr. He also leaves behind his stepdaughter, Laura (Ken) Bumgardner, and his grandchildren, Margaret "Wesley" Pendell, Charlie Pendell, and step-grandchild, Sloane Bumgardner. Charles is further survived by his sister, Brenda (Dave) Renfer. Charles’ long-time neighbor and best friend Bhavin Patel was also like a second son to him and had helped him out immensely over the years with his many dogs and household projects.

Charles earned his Bachelor's degree, which enabled him to further his career and passion as a mechanical engineer in the automotive industry where he made significant contributions throughout his career. He was known for his dedication and expertise, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of working with him.

In addition to his professional achievements, he found immense joy and purpose in volunteering with the Golden Retriever Rescue of Michigan (GRRoM), where he selflessly dedicated his time to helping dogs in need. He participated in the transporting and rehoming of dozens, if not hundreds, of dogs over the last 10 years. His ‘puppies’, Mandy and Lanti, were his best friends and companions, along with Cooper, Reka, Sandy, Jerry, Julie, Pepper, Diamond, and the countless other dogs that he personally took care of and welcomed into his home.

Through his long-time volunteer work and membership on the board of the PC Alano Club, Charles helped numerous people to overcome their addiction to alcohol and to live life to the fullest. By his selfless service to this cause, Charles lives on in the lives he has touched for the better.

Being a universal donor, Charles also donated blood every six weeks for most of his adult life, further showing his love and commitment to his community.

A memorial gathering to honor Charles's life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, located at 280 S. Main St, Plymouth, MI 48170, with a Celebration of Life service at 5:00 PM.

The family would ask in lieu of flowers that anyone interested please make donations in his name to either the Golden Retriever Rescue of Michigan or Heartland Hospice. Contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Charles Edward Orr’s legacy will live on through the love and memories shared by his family and friends. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the impact he made in both his personal and professional life.
