Cecilia ( Lucy ) Curmi was born in Qormi, Malta, March 22, 1922. She was the youngest of 10 children of Rosaria and John Micallef. While living in Malta, she took care of many children of English friends, and kept up with them through letters and pictures. She immigrated to Plymouth, Michigan in 1950 and married Savior ( Sam ) Curmi on June 8, 1950 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, where she continued to be a member until her death. They had two children, Rose and Charles. She and Sam enjoyed gardening and were known in the area for their fresh fruits and vegetables. Lucy worked in the Plymouth school system and retired in 1977. She was able to make several trips back in Malta to visit family and friends, most recently in 2001. Her loving husband, Sam, died in 1999, after 49 years of marriage. She continued to live in the home they shared in Plymouth until moving to a condo in 2004. She enjoyed baking, shopping, going to church, visiting with family and friends and playing bingo at the senior center. She lived independently until suffering a debilitating stroke on September 10, 2013. She died December 31st, surrounded by her loving family, under Hospice care at the Plymouth Inn. She is survived by Rose ( Manuel ) Calleja, Charles ( Patricia ) Curmi and six loving grandchildren; Melissa ( Dan ) Leavoy, Kimberly ( Jeff ) Gerton, Jason Calleja, Tricia ( Michael ) Struthers, Daniel Curmi and Alicia Curmi. Also leaves many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Thursday from 2pm until 9pm with a Rosary at 7pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10am until time of the funeral mass at 10:30am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 North Territorial Road ( at Beck Road ) Plymouth. Contributions are suggested to Angela Hospice, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Plymouth Kiwanis Foundation or Mass intentions.
