Carolyn S. Westfall

September 17, 1920 — July 11, 2015

Passed away at American House in Westland on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the age of 94. Carolyn was born in Highland Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. She was raised in Highland Park, graduating from the high school there. On December 22, 1945 she married Leroy E. Westfall and soon thereafter the couple moved back to Leroy's home town of Plymouth. The couple and their growing family resided in Plymouth the rest of their lives. For a short period Carolyn worked at Burroughs but tending three growing children became her main responsibility. After her youngest entered school she joined the cafeteria staff at Allen School, the old Plymouth High School and finally at Salem High School where she retired from in 1995 at the age of 75. Carolyn enjoyed shopping and going to garage and rummage sales was her hobby. She was also an avid reader. Carolyn was a member of the Rebecca's, the women's group of the Odd Fellows and of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. In 2007 she lost her husband of 62 years and she is survived by her children, Deborah ( Dana ) Johnson, Patrice ( Stephen ) Phillips and Gregory ( Karen ) Westfall. Six grandchildren; her eldest grandchild resides in Finland; six great-grandchildren and three of them live in Finland, and sister-in-law, Luree Westfall also survive. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Thursday from 1 pm until 9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday 11 am at the funeral home with the Reverend Chris Thomas of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Plymouth officiating.
