Caroline Jane Weage, age 91, passed away on March 7, 2012, at Angela Hospice in Livonia. Caroline was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on April 28, 1920, the daughter of John F. and Johanna (Koudelka) Beyer. Caroline loved music, playing varied instruments including the piano, trumpet and drums, and also teaching music. During World War II, she played drums with the group "The Swingettes," entertaining the troops at various bases throughout the United States. She also played drums at the First United Methodist Church of Plymouth in a senior band. She was one of the founding members of the Plymouth Community Band, and she also wrote books concerning her experiences playing with the band during the war years and books for teaching music.
She is survived by her son, Steven (Nora) Weage, and her granddaughter, Valerie. Her husband, Kenneth, and son, Bradley, precede her in death. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 2pm until time of the memorial service at 3pm, which will be officiated by the Reverend Drex Morton.
