Carol Jean Hay, age 71 of Canton, Michigan (previously of Belleville) passed away on February 26, 2023. She was born on July 5, 1951 to her parents, the late Evelyn Elizabeth (née Riggs) and George Henry Smith. She grew up in Trenton, Michigan, and lived in the Detroit area throughout her life, living in Canton for the past 10 years.
She is the beloved and devoted wife of the late Dan Hay; loving mother of daughters Kerrie (Patrick) Kuhne and Kelley (Andrew) Shultz, and “bonus daughter” Amy Baith; stepmother of Dean, Todd, and Jason Hay; proud grandmother of Brenna, Timothy, Ryan, Shannon, Elizabeth, Lucas, Mason and Brendan. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her sister Sharon (Andrew) Gashette. She is pre-deceased by her sister Sandra (Sam).
Carol was a retired accountant specializing in banking and taxes. She loved to crochet, cook/bake, travel, and spend time with family and friends. Carol was deeply involved with her church community at Connection Church in Canton. She helped lead the Celebrate Recovery (CR) group at Connection Church and was also a regional CR representative, helping other churches in Michigan establish and run their own CR groups. Carol found great purpose, comfort and happiness in her church and CR communities.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to consider a contribution to Celebrate Recovery, Connection Church, 3855 South Sheldon, Canton, Michigan 48188.
