Betty Jean Johnson

March 2, 1933 — February 21, 2021

Betty Jean Johnson, age 87 of Canton, passed away on February 21, 2021.

Betty Jean was born on March 2, 1933 in Henderson, Tennessee to her parents, the late Buford and Mary Louis (née Thomas) Skinner. She is the beloved and devoted wife of the late William Haven Johnson; loving mother of Rene J. (Bob) Lockett, Sheryl (Michael) Lamarand and, the late Ricky Lynn Johnson, Sr; proud grandmother of John William (Kerrie) Lockett, Ricky Lynn (Melissa) Johnson, Jr., Jason Kenneth (Stephanie) Lockett, Jacob Wayne (Kennedy Parkins) Lockett, Jared Wesley (Melissa Freed) Lockett, Rachel Diane (Anthony) Zambroni, Brandon Michael (Elsa) Johnson, Matthew Allen (Ashaleena) Lamarand, Mitchell James (Victoria Johnston) Lamarand, Mason Andrew (Alex Ryckman) Lamarand, Christine (Neto) Esparza and great-grandmother of Edie, John, Jr. “Gus”, Harper, Kaitlyn, Kylie, Kelsey, Kody, Alanna, Alex, Manny, Emily, Hunter, Natalie, McKayla, Colin, Austin, and Vaida. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her brother, Jack Wesley (Virginia) Skinner as well as many nieces and nephews.

All who knew Betty Jean as a friend or their Sunday School Teacher, also knew she was a Christian who lived her life as a faithful servant and to be more like Jesus. She lived her life by faith in God. She would go where she was led to go and trusted that the Lord would show her what to do. Betty Jean was humble and would put other people at a higher priority than her own desires. She knew this from her Scripture readings and that God’s Word is always right.

Betty Jean was an avid gardener. Working in the garden gave her that opportunity to be around nature to work directly into preparing the ground, planting the seeds, nurturing plants as they sprouted through the earth, and watch them grow and create beauty around her. Whether it was flower or vegetable gardening, there is so much beauty in both.
