Barbara L. Peterson

Barbara L. Peterson passed away December 27, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born January 9, 1926 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John and Rose (Rogers) Hoevet. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband Floyd. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family. Barbara is survived by her daughters Nancy (Dennis) Martin and Marti (Bruce) Hartdegen and grandchildren Matt Hartdegen, Brian Hartdegen, Laura Martin and Kevin Martin. Also surviving are two nieces, Cindy Lang and Barb Murphy. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister Janet Murphy. Barbara received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1946 from the University of Nebraska after which she worked as a Biochemist at Parke-Davis in Detroit. She met Floyd Peterson there and they were married in 1953. In 1973 she earned her Master of Arts Degree from Eastern Michigan University and then taught school in Livonia and Plymouth until 1985. Barbara and Floyd lived in Plymouth from 1959 until they retired to Oceanside, California in 1985. They moved back to Michigan in 1999 and located in Canton. Barbara was formerly a member of American Association of University Women. She loved Crossword Puzzles, playing Bridge, reading and traveling, especially summer family trips camping out all over the United States. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader. Barbara loved her children and grandchildren very much. Family was everything to her. There will be a Memorial Service Saturday, January 4, 2014, 4pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth. Friends may visit Saturday from 2pm until time of service.
